ABOUT THE WORKSHOP INSTRUCTORS:

 

Jan Thomas, PhD, CSP— Dr. Jan Thomas has more than 30 years of experience in safety and risk control at the federal, state and university levels. Prior to beginning her private consulting business, Jan held a full-time faculty position at VCU for nine years. Between 1981 and 1985 she was Chief Administrator of the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health Program (VOSH). She began her career in 1975 as a safety and health specialist with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the U.S. Department of Labor.

 

Today Jan is the president and founder of Circle Safety & Health Consultants. She is also associated with the Columbia Southern University as an Adjunct Professor in the College of Safety & Emergency Services with teaching duties in the Master of Science program. Jan holds a B.A. in Russian Language from Old Dominion University, the M.S. in Safety from the University of Southern California and the Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She also holds the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation. She participates in several professional organizations, and has published a number of chapters in technical books as well as numerous articles; three have received national writing awards.

 

Anna E. Jolly, JD, CHMM— Ms. Anna Jolly has more than 30 years experience in industrial hygiene and environmental affairs in both private industry and state government. Prior to entering private practice, Anna worked with the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry, first as an attorney and later as the Virginia Asbestos Program Supervisor. She began her career as a plant Industrial Hygienist for AT&T Technologies where she worked for 10 years. Anna is active in several professional organizations, and has been recognized for her ability to integrate technical and legal requirements relating to occupational and environmental regulation. Presently Anna is a partner and vice-president of Circle Safety & Health Consultants. She has recently been appointed by the Governor of Virginia to a 3rd consecutive term as a member of the Virginia Safety and Health Codes Board; she also serves on Virginia's Joint Subcommittee Studying Lead Poisoning Prevention. Anna holds a B.S. in Environmental Health from Eastern Kentucky University, an M.S. in Environmental Science from George Washington University, and a J.D. from the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. She is licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and is certified by the Institute of Hazardous Material Management as a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.
